The NEM Initiative (New European Media Initiative) is one of the European Technology Platforms dedicated to future Connected, Converging and Interactive Media & Creative Industries. Currently, New European Media Initiative connects more than 1000 organisations in Content, Media & Creative Industry from 90 countries in an open collaboration community. The NEM initiative promotes active networking, access to latest research and development projects in Media sector, encourage innovations and partnerships, knowledge sharing and new research and business opportunities.
Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” was presented as an ambassador of the NEM Initiative during the NEM General Assembly, held on 30th of May 2018 in Brussels. During the Annual NEM General Assembly, the next opportunities for media and creative industries in the realms of new Digital initiatives in Europe have been discussed. The next steps for FP9, the role of Digital Innovation Hubs, DEI initiatives and 5G were among the topics which had been discussed. Some of the new coming NEM position papers cover the Media and Big Data, Artificial Intelligence in media and Policy recommendations from the media sector. Further opportunities under next calls for Horizon 2020 have been outlined.

The NEM Initiative (New European Media Initiative) was established as one of the European Technology Platform under the Seventh Framework Programme. In order to respond to new need and requirements of the Horizon 2020 programme, the NEM initiative enlarged its focus towards creative industries, dealing with Connected, Converging and Interactive Media & Creative Industries, driving the future of digital experience. This way, NEM focuses on an innovative mix of various media and creative content forms, delivered seamlessly over technologically transparent networks, to improve the quality, enjoyment and value of life. NEM represents the convergence of existing and new technologies, including broadband, mobile and new media, including creativity, across all sectors, to create a new and exciting era of advanced personalised services.
